Critical double phase problems involving sandwich-type nonlinearities

From MaRDI portal

The paper studies a Dirichlet boundary value problem driven by a double-phase operator of the form \(\mathrm{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u + a(x)|\nabla u|^{q-2}\nabla u)\) on a bounded domain. The reaction term combines an indefinite-weight ``sandwich nonlinearity with exponent \(s\in(p,q)\) and critical Sobolev growth terms of double-phase type. Using variational methods together with a new concentration-compactness principle, truncation techniques, and Krasnoselskii's genus theory, the authors establish compactness below an explicit energy threshold. They then prove existence of a nontrivial nonnegative solution with negative energy for \(\lambda>\lambda_0\) and sufficiently small \(\theta\), and derive multiplicity of negative-energy solution pairs under additional positivity assumptions on the weight.
