The concept SDPS-set (=sub dual polar space set) is introduced in [\textit{B. de Bruyn} and \textit{P. Vandecasteele}, J. Combin. Theory Ser. A 112, 194--211 (2005; Zbl 1085.51006)] where four properties are used to define an SDPS-set which suffice in the finite case. In the present paper the following fifth property is added in order to grasp also the infinite case: (5) If \(x\) is an element of the point set \(X\) of the dual polar space \(\Delta\) of rank \(2n\) and if \(L\) is a line through \(x\), then \(L\) is contained in a quad of \(\Delta\) which contains at least two points of \(X\). The author proves the subsequent main theorem: The symplectic dual polar space \(DW(4n-1,q)\), \(n\geq\,2\), admits up to isomorphisms a unique SDPS-set. Via an embedding of \(DW(2n-1,q^2)\) in \(DW(4n-1,q)\) the author constructs the unique SDPS-set of \(DW(4n-1,q)\), \(n\geq\,2\). The conclusion of the main theorem does not hold for \(n=1\). The SDPS-sets of \(DW(3,q)\) are precisely the ovoids of \(Q(4,q)\). A list of non-classical ovoids of \(Q(4,q)\) is exhibited.
