Sheaves over Heyting lattices (Q1076015)

In this paper, a notion of étale map (local homeomorphism) for locales is defined and it is shown that if L is a locale, the category ET(L), of étale locales over L, is equivalent to the topos sh(L) of sheaves on L. The authors are not aware that this problem has previously been considered by \textit{A. Carboni} and \textit{G. Meloni} [Boll. Unione Mat. Ital., IV. Ser. 12, 192-197 (1975; Zbl 0359.06022)] and also by \textit{G. van den Bossche} [Ann. Soc. Sci. Brux., Ser. I 91, 107-116 (1977; Zbl 0402.18010)]. The definition of étale map in the latter is different from that in the article under review, however the two definitions can be seen to be equivalent.
