This paper studies a kinetic model of proliferating cell populations and a rigorous mathematical analysis of the Rotenberg model is provided. The first approach consists in formulating the model as a semigroup of bounded linear operators in a Banach space. The asymptotic behavior is studied by means of a spectral analysis of the infinitesimal generator of the associated semigroup. Then a dynamical formulation of the models is presented and the property of asynchronous exponential growth is proved. Applications to concrete biological problems would be interesting but they are not given by the authors.
