The author characterizes the infinitesimal generator of the strongly continuous semigroup of nonlinear operators in \(L^ 1\) associated with an integral form of the McKendrick-von Foerster equations for the evolution of an age-structured population. The vital birth and death rates are assumed to satisfy, amongst other technical things, global Lipschitz conditions as nonlinear functions of the total population size.
