Let \(R\) be a reduced irreducible root system with ordered base \(B\). Let \(\tau\in\Lambda^ +_ r\), the positive cone of the root lattice of \(R\) with respect to \(B\). Konstant's partition function \(P(\tau)\) is the number of ways to write \(\tau\) as a sum of positive roots, and \(E_ +(\tau)\) is the set of such expressions for \(\tau\). The author defines a ``Konstant-PBW'' ordering on \(E_ +(\tau)\) based on refining of partitions. Under this ordering \(E_ +(\tau)\) becomes a poset denoted \(K(\tau)\). \(K(\tau)\) is a ranked poset but is not in general a lattice or rank symmetric, nor must it have the LYM property, although in many other respects these posets show ``nice behavior''. The author supplies a number of illustrative examples based on root systems of types \(G_ 2\), \(D_ 4\), and \(A_ 3\).
