In a somewhat discursive presentation, the author discusses various aspects of the philosophy of mathematics as his two heroes understood it. The place is stressed of logic in the development of philosophy in general during this century. His interpretation of Wittgenstein is based on trying to understand the available texts; for Gödel he draws upon personal discussions (so the title is slightly misleading). Issues raised include foundationalism, Platonism, empiricism, and intuition.
