    It is shown that any operator \(T:C(K)\to Y\), \(Y\) Banach space, of rank \(T=n\) satisfies the inequality between the \(p\)- and \((p,1)\)-summing norms \[ \pi_ p(T)\leq S(1+\log n)^{1-1/p}\pi_{p,1}(T),\quad 1<p<\infty. \] The factor \((\log n)^{1-1/p}\) is asymptotically best possible. This extends a result of Jameson for \(p=2\). Some applications to the maximal growth of the norms of tensor products of \(T,S:\ell^ n_ q\to\ell^ n_ p\), \(1\leq p<q\leq 2\), in their natural \(\ell_ q\)- and \(\ell_ p\)- tensor products are given.
