In \([0,1]\)-fuzzy topological spaces, RS-compactness was studied by \textit{D. Çoker} and \textit{A. H. Es} [On fuzzy RS-compact spaces, Doga TU J. Math. 13, 34-42 (1989)]. Their definition is along the lines of \textit{C. L. Chang}'s compactness [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 24, 182-190 (1968; Zbl 0167.51001)] which is not a good definition of compactness. Also in \([0,1]\)-fuzzy topological spaces \textit{A. A. Allam} and \textit{A. M. Zahran} [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 57, No. 2, 249-255 (1993; Zbl 0807.54012)], using the concept of \(\alpha\)-shading [\textit{T. E. Gantner, R. C. Steinlage} and \textit{R. H. Warren}, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 62, 547-562 (1978; Zbl 0372.54001)], presented another version of this concept. In this paper, considering the compactness defined in [\textit{M. W. Warner} and \textit{R. G. McLean}, Fuzzy Sets Syst. 56, No. 1, 103-110 (1993; Zbl 0790.54005)] and extended to arbitrary \(L\)-fuzzy sets in [\textit{S. R. T. Kudri}, ibid. 67, No. 3, 329-336 (1994; Zbl 0842.54011)], the authors introduce RS-compactness in \(L\)-fuzzy topological spaces. They prove the goodness of the proposed definition, obtain different characterizations of it and study some of its properties.
