The author introduces an analogue of the \(q\)-Schur algebra associated to a Coxeter system of type \(\widehat A_{n-1}\) generalizing the original notion of \(q\)-Schur algebra introduced by \textit{R. Dipper} and \textit{G. James} [Proc. Lond. Math. Soc., III. Ser. 59, No. 1, 23-50 (1989; Zbl 0711.20007)]. Two constructions of this algebra are given. In the first the algebra is realized as endomorphism algebra arising from an affine Hecke algebra of type \(\widehat A_{r-1}\), where \(n\geq r\). In the second construction the affine \(q\)-Schur algebra is realized as the faithful quotient of the action of a quantum group on the tensor power of a certain module, analogous to the construction of the ordinary \(q\)-Schur algebra as a quotient of the quantized enveloping algebra \(U(\mathfrak{gl}_n)\).
