Two families of multistep hybrid methods of algebraic order six and eight are developed. These methods are constructed in order the phase-lag to be minimal. When we say construction of a family of methods we mean the automatic definition of the coefficients of the family of methods. In the present case the automatic definition of the coefficients of the families of methods is obtained by requiring that the difference \(\cos(H) - A(H)\), where \(A(H)\) is the polynomial defined by the characteristic equation (which is defined by the application of the families of methods to the scalar test equation \(y''=-\lambda^2 y\)), must have the maximal order. So, a family of sixth algebraic order methods with phase-lag order \(2m+6\), where \(m\) is the number of the method of the family of methods, is produced. A family of eighth algebraic order methods with phase-lag order \(2m+8\), where \(m\) is the number of the method of the family of methods, is also produced. The intervals of periodicity of the families of methods are greater than the interval of periodicity of Numerov's method. We note here that families of methods have been produced in the past by \textit{G. Avdelas} and \textit{T. E. Simos} [Comput. Math. Appl. 31, No. 2, 85-102 (1996; Zbl 0853.65079) and J. Comput. Appl. Math. 72, No. 2, 345-358 (1996; Zbl 0863.65042)]. The results presented on the resonance problem of the Schrödinger equation (with Woods-Saxon potential) show the efficiency of the proposed families of methods.
