The paper is an expository article on results on a conjecture of the author on local solvability of formally integrable structures on a \(C^\infty\) \((n+ 1)\)-dimensional manifold \(M\) in the co-rank one case. In this case, the differential complex associated with the structure can be expressed in terms of some \(C^\infty\)-function \(Z: M\to C\) of the form \(Z(x, t)= x+ i\Phi(x, t)\), where \(x\in \mathbb{R}\), \(t= (t_1,\dots, t_n)\in \mathbb{R}^n\), and the conjecture relates local solvability to the homology of the sets \(\{(x, t), x= x^0, \Phi(x^0, t)= y^0\}\). The conjecture has been solved recently in hyperfunctions by \textit{P. Cordaro} and the author [Invent. Math. 120, No. 2, 339-360 (1995; Zbl 0834.35004)].
