The authors introduce and study co-orbit maps for quantum matrices. Let \({\mathcal O}(M_q)\) be a coordinate algebra of quantum \(n\times n\)-matrices over \(\mathbb{C}\). \({\mathcal O}(M_q)\) is a subalgebra of the coordiante algebra of the quantum general linear group \({\mathcal O}(\text{GL}_q(n))\). For any linear map \(\xi\colon{\mathcal O}(M_q)\to\mathbb{C}\), the co-orbit map is defined as \(\beta^\xi\colon{\mathcal O}(M_q)\to{\mathcal O}(\text{GL}_q(n))\), \(\beta^\xi=(\xi\otimes I)\circ\beta\), where \(\beta\colon{\mathcal O}(M_q)\to{\mathcal O}(M_q)\otimes{\mathcal O}(\text{GL}_q(n))\) is the right coaction obtained by the restriction of the right adjoint coaction in \({\mathcal O}(\text{GL}_q(n))\) to \({\mathcal O}(M_q)\). The authors calculate co-orbit maps explicitly for \(2\times 2\) quantum matrices. It is shown that, for quantum matrices of arbitrary size and a transcendental deformation parameter \(q\in\mathbb{C}\), the kernel of the co-orbit map \(\beta^\xi\) corresponding to a maximal \(\xi\) is a right ideal generated by coinvariants. If \(\xi\) is diagonal with pairwise different eigenvalues, then the image of \(\beta^\xi\) coincides with the subalgebra of coinvariants with respect to the left coaction of the diagonal quantum subgroup of the quantum general linear group.
