A Noetherian ring \(R\) with minimal injective resolution \(_RR\rightarrowtail I_0\rightarrowtail I_1\rightarrowtail\cdots\) is said to be \(n\)-Gorenstein if the flat dimension of \(I_i\) is less or equal to \(i\) for \(i<n\). The author defines a dominant number \(l\in\mathbb{N}\) by the property that \(\text{fd\,}I_i<\text{fd\,}I_l\) holds for \(i<l\). He proves that a dominant number \(l<n\) of an \(n\)-Gorenstein ring \(R\) satisfies \(\text{fd\,}I_l=l\), and that these dominant numbers are the same for \(R\) and \(R^{\text{op}}\). Furthermore, he shows that they coincide with the grades \(\text{j}(X)<n\) of finitely generated \(R\)-modules \(X\). The other main results deal with two kinds of duality for \(n\)-Gorenstein rings with important special cases in the representation theory of Artinian algebras and orders. The first duality is given by the functor \(\text{Ext}_R^l(-,R)\) and applies to the categories of finitely generated (left resp. right) \(R\)-modules \(X=\text{Ext}_R^l(Y,R)\) with \(\text{j}(Y)\geq l\), where \(l<n-1\). The second duality, given by the functor \(\text{Soc\,Ext}_R^l(-,R)\), relates the simple left \(R\)-modules of grade \(l\) to the simple right \(R\)-modules of grade \(l\), when \(l<n\). Here it is assumed, in addition, that \(R\) is finite over its center.
