This is a survey over several papers making up, or related to, the author's habilitation dissertation. The connecting theme is the Brunn-Minkowski theorem, together with its analytic variants and ramifications, and the role these ramifications play in convex geometric analysis and in probability. One line leads from the Brunn-Minkowski theorem via the Prékopa-Leindler and the Brascamp-Lieb inequalities to the inverse form of the latter proved by the anthor. Clearly demonstrated is the power of measure transportation techniques for obtaining convolution inequalities. These and other analytic methods are applied to a variety of topics, covering metric or volumic extremal problems in convex geometry, isoperimetric problems, concentration of probability measures and entropy production in the central limit theorem. The author describes very well the origin and context of his own work and gives many references. Thus, this survey is very useful as an introduction to an important part of the contemporary study of geometric and analytic inequalities. Most of the surveyed articles have already been reviewed [\textit{F. Barthe}, C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér. I 321, No.~7, 865--868 (1995; Zbl 0876.46011); C. R. Acad. Sci., Paris, Sér.
