The authors show that the quantum problem of a particle confined to a prolate ellipsoid in \(\mathbb{R}^3\) exhibits monodromy. The corresponding classical problem is the billiard inside that region. They derive the bifurcation diagram for the problem under consideration from the corresponding billiard map. The authors discuss and derive the monodromy matrix from the requirement of the existence of locally smooth actions. Moreover, they introduce a quantum mechanical version of the billiard and the implication of monodromy on the quantum spectrum is discussed.
