This very interesting paper deals with finite-dimensional algebras \(R\) over algebraically closed fields \(K\) and characterizes infinite representation type in case \(R\) is loop-finite or strongly simply connected. An Artin algebra \(R\) is loop-finite, if the Abelian subgroup \(\text{rad}^\infty_R(X,X)\) of the Jacobson radical \(\text{rad}_R(X,X)\) of the endomorphism ring \(\text{End}_RX\) is zero for all indecomposable, finitely generated \(R\)-modules \(X\). (This category contains all tame, tilted algebras, all tubular algebras, and all multicoil algebras.) An algebra is strongly simply connected if the underlying quiver has no oriented cycles and if the path algebra coming from any convex subquivers has vanishing first Hochschild cohomology group. A key for this characterization is the problem whether the classical Kronecker algebra embeds into the category in question. The main result reads as follows. Theorem 0.1 For \(K\), \(R\) as above the following four conditions are equivalent: \(\bullet\) The \(K\)-algebra \(R\) is of infinite representation type. \(\bullet\) There exist finitely generated rigid \(R\)-modules \(U,V\). That is \[ \text{End}_R(U)\cong K\cong\text{End}_RV\text{ with }\Hom_R(U,V)=\Hom_R(V,U)=0. \] Moreover \(\dim_K\text{Ext}^1_R(U,V)>1\). \(\bullet\) The category of right \(R\)-modules contains a full and exact subcategory equivalent to the category of Kronecker modules (derived from the Kronecker quiver), such that the subcategory of finitely generated Kronecker modules embeds into the subcategory of finitely generated \(R\)-modules. \(\bullet\) Every \(K\)-algebra is isomorphic to a \(K\)-algebra of the form \(\text{End}_RX\), where \(X\) is a right \(R\)-module.
