Let \(q\geq 2\) be an integer, \(\zeta_q=\exp(2\pi i/q)\). A function \(f:\mathbb Z_q^n\mapsto \mathbb Z_q\) is a generalized bent function of type \([n,q]\) if \(F(\lambda)\overline{F(\lambda)}=q^n\) for every \(\lambda\in\mathbb Z_q^n\), where \[ F(\lambda)=\sum_{x\in\mathbb Z_q^n}\zeta_q^{f(x)}\cdot \zeta_q^{-x\cdot \lambda}. \] \textit{D. Pei} [Lect. Notes Pure Appl. Math. 141, 165--172 (1993; Zbl 0801.94010)] proved that there is no generalized bent function of type \([n=1,q=2\times 7]\). \textit{Y. Jiang} and \textit{Y. Deng} [ibid. 75, No. 3, 375--385 (2015; Zbl 1337.11075)] proved that there is no generalized bent function of type \([n=3,q=2\times 23^{\ell}]\). In this paper the authors extend the above statements to a general situation by extending the known methods.
