The generalized polynomial Moon-Rand system (Q1681027)

Consider the autonomous system \[ {du\over dt}= v,\quad {dv\over dt}= -u(1+w),\quad {dw\over dt}=-\lambda w+ f_n(u,v),\tag{\(*\)} \] where \(\lambda\) is a positive real parameter and \(f_n\) is a homogeneous polynomial in \(u\), \(v\) of degree \(n\). The origin is a nondegenerate equilibrium with a two-dimensional center manifold \(\Sigma_2\). The authors prove a theorem which implies that system \((*)\) restricted on \(\Sigma_2\) has a center at the origin if \(f_n\) has the structure \[ f_n(u,v)= c_1 u^{n-1}\Biggl(u+ {n\over\lambda}v\Biggr)\quad\text{for }n\in \{3,4,5,6\}. \]
