The authors consider maximal globally hyperbolic anti-de Sitter manifolds \(M\) (i.e., locally isometric to \(\mathbb{A}d \mathbb{S}^3\)), endowed with a closed, oriented, Cauchy surface \(S\) of genus \(g\geq 2\). The moduli space of these maximal globally hyperbolic metrics \(\mathcal{MGH}(S)\) admits the Mess' parameterization \(\mathcal{T}(S) \times \mathcal{T}(S)\), where \(\mathcal{T}(S)\) is the Teichmüller space of \(S\). The authors study to what extent the volume of the convex core of maximal globally hyperbolic manifolds \(M_{hh'}\) depends on some quantities related to any two parameters \(h,h' \in \mathcal{T}(S)\). It is shown that this volume behaves like the minima of certain types of \(L^1\)-energies of maps \(f : (S, h) \rightarrow (S, h')\). Moreover, lower and upper bounds for these volumes are found.
