The notion of an ergodic measure-preserving system with quasi-discrete spectrum was first introduced by \textit{P. R. Halmos} and \textit{J. von Neumann} [Ann. Math. (2) 43, 332--350 (1942; Zbl 0063.01888)] while \textit{L. M. Abramov} [Transl., Ser. 2, Am. Math. Soc. 39, 37--56 (1964; Zbl 0154.15704)] was the first to systematically study this notion. The author proves the following result: a generic point of an ergodic quasi-discrete spectrum measure in a topological dynamical system satisfies the required disjointness condition in Sarnak's Möbius disjointness conjecture. The proof goes through a decomposition result for ergodic measure-preserving systems with quasi-discrete spectrum. An immediate corollary of the main theorem is that Sarnak's Möbius disjointness conjecture holds for any topological model of an ergodic measure-preserving system with quasi-discrete spectrum. Two approximation results are also given at the end of the paper.
