In this paper, the author introduces the nonhomogeneous analogs of spaces due to \textit{J. Van Schaftingen} [J. Funct. Anal. 236, No. 2, 490--516 (2006; Zbl 1110.46024)], and shows that such spaces refine the embedding \(W^{1,n} (\mathbb{R}^n) \subset \text{BMO} (\mathbb{R}^n)\). In addition, analogous results are also established on bounded Lipschitz domains and Riemannian manifolds with bounded geometry.
