In the paper, the authors initiate a systematic study of the rank \(n\) Fuji-Suzuki-Tsuda system (\(FST_{n}\)). The \(FST_{n}\) system has Hamiltonian form \[ (1)\quad s\frac{dq^{(k)}}{ds}=\frac{\partial H}{\partial p^{(k)}},\quad s\frac{dp^{(k)}}{ds}=-\frac{\partial H}{\partial q^{(k)}},\quad k=2,\ldots,n, \] and the Hamiltonian function is given by \[ H=\sum\limits_{m=1}^{n}\theta _{0}^{(m)}p^{(m)}q^{(m)}+\sum\limits_{1\leq l<m\leq n}(\bar{p}^{(l)}+p^{(l)}q^{(m)})p^{(m)}q^{(l)}+\frac{1}{s-1}\sum\limits_{l,m=1}^{n}\bar{p}^{(l)}p^{(m)}q^{(l)}. \] Such system can be obtained by considering the monodromy preserving deformations of the Fuchsian system with 4 regular singular points on \(\mathbb{CP}^{1}\) \[ \quad \frac{dY}{dz}=A(z)Y,\quad A(z)=\sum\limits_{\nu =0,1,t}\frac{A_{v}}{z-\nu},\quad A_{v}\in M_{n}(\mathbb{C}). \] For the system (1) the tau function \(\tau_{FST}(t)\) is directly related to the Hamiltonian by \[ s\frac{d}{ds}\ln \tau_{FST}(s^{-1})=H. \] The authors ``derive Fredholm determinant and series representation of the tau function of the Fuji-Suzuki-Tsuda system and its multivariate extension, thereby generalizing to higher rank the results obtained for Painlevé VI and the Garnier system.''
