The authors study the existence of interior spikes of the following problem: \[ -\varepsilon^2\operatorname{div} (J(x)\nabla u)+V(x)u= u^p, \quad\text{in }\Omega, \qquad \frac{\partial u}{\partial\nu}=0, \quad\text{on }\partial\Omega, \] where \(\Omega\) is a smooth bounded domain of \(\mathbb R^N\) with external normal \(\nu\), \(N\geq 3\), \(1<p< \frac{N+2}{N-2}\), \(J:\mathbb R^N\to\mathbb R\), and \(V:\mathbb R^N\to\mathbb R\) are \(C^2\)-functions. The authors show that the concentration occurs at maximum and minimum points of an auxiliary functional depending only on the potentials.
