Let \(k\) be a commutative Artinian ring and \(\mathcal A\) an additive \(k\)-category. For a positive integer \(n>1\), let \(C_n(\mathcal A)\) denote the category of complexes \(X=(X^i,d^i_X)_{i\in\mathbb{Z}}\) in \(\mathcal A\) with \(X^i=0\) if \(i\notin\{1,\dots,n\}\). Then \(C_n(\mathcal A)\) is endowed with a natural exact structure \(\mathcal E_n\), and the authors show that each \(X\in C_n(\mathcal A)\) has an \(\mathcal E_n\)-projective resolution and an \(\mathcal E_n\)-injective co-resolution both of length \(n\), and \(C_n(\mathcal A)\) has global dimension at most \(n-1\). Let \(\text{Mod\,}\mathcal A\) be the category of contravariant functors \(F\colon\mathcal A\to\text{Mod\,}k\). If \(\mathcal A\) is a dualizing category, i.e., the finitely presented objects and finitely copresented objects in \(\text{Mod\,}\mathcal A\) coincide, then it is shown that \(C_n(\mathcal A)\) has almost split sequences (or Auslander-Reiten sequences). Finally, if \(\Lambda\) is an Artin algebra and \(\mathcal A\) is the category of finitely generated projective \(\Lambda\)-modules, then the authors prove that the ends of an almost split sequence are related by an Auslander-Reiten translation functor which is defined in the most general category \(C_n(\text{Proj\,}\Lambda)\), where \(\text{Proj\,}\Lambda\) denotes the category of all projective \(\Lambda\)-modules.
