\textit{P. Etingof} and the author [in Math. Res. Lett. 11, No. 5-6, 685-696 (2004; Zbl 1080.16041)] constructed certain finite-dimensional basic quasi-Hopf algebras \(H(2)\), \(H_+(8)\), \(H_-(8)\), \(H(32)\), of dimensions 2, 8, 8 and 32, respectively. In this paper the author extends the construction of the 8-dimensional examples \(H_+(8)\) and \(H_-(8)\), by introducing a family of basic quasi-Hopf algebras \(A(q)\) of dimension \(n^3\), \(n \geq 2\), parametrized by a primitive \(n^2\)-th root of unity \(q\). The radical of these examples is of codimension \(n\) and the irreducible representations form a cyclic group of order \(n\). It is shown that these quasi-Hopf algebras are not twist equivalent to Hopf algebras, and therefore their tensor category of representations admits no fiber functor to the category of vector spaces. A characterization of \(A(q)\) is also given.
