The goal of this paper is to prove that two properties of \(C^*\)-algebras persist under generalized inductive limits, which are inductive limits where the connecting maps are completely positive contractions of order zero. The first property (\(\alpha\)-comparison) is a comparison property for elements in the Cuntz semigroup, while the second (finite nuclear dimension) is a notion of rank for \(C^*\)-algebras that generalizes the usual notion of covering dimension for topological spaces. As mentioned by the authors in the introduction, these two properties may be viewed in the context of the classification program for \(C^*\)-algebras. Section 2 consists of some preliminaries about the Cuntz semigroup. In Section 3, the authors prove that, if a generalized inductive system of \(C^*\)-algebras all have uniformly bounded nuclear dimension, then the nuclear dimension of the generalized limit is also controlled by that same bound. In Section 4, the authors prove that, if each member of a generalized inductive system of \(C^*\)-algebras satisfies the \(\alpha\)-comparison property for the same fixed \(\alpha \in [1,\infty)\), then the generalized limit also satisfies the \(\alpha\)-comparison property provided the connecting maps collectively satisfy a certain lower bound condition. This last condition is automatically satisfied if the connecting maps are unital \(\ast\)-homomorphisms.
