This interesting and detailed paper is devoted to the studies of the relationship between quantum Lie algebras introduced by Woronowicz in the context of bicovariant differential calculi on quantum groups and braided Lie algebras introduced by Majid. In particular, it is shown that an extension of a quantum Lie algebra \(g\) related to a bicovariant differential calculus on a co-quasitriangular Hopf algebra \((A, {\mathbf r})\) is a braided Lie algebra in the category of \(A\)-comodules. This result is then used to show that the universal enveloping algebra of \(g\) is a braided bialgebra in the category of \(A\)-comodules. This bialgebra turns out to be a quadratic bialgebra if the calculus is inner, i.e., with the differential given as a commutator with a bi-invariant one-form. Examples include differential calculi on finite groups and standard bicovariant differential calculi on quantum groups. The authors describe also a categorical construction of bicovariant differential calculi. First they introduce the category \(\mathcal D\) of bicovariant first-order differential calculi. Objects in \({\mathcal D}\) are triples \((A,\Gamma, d)\) where \(A\) is a Hopf algebra, and \((\Gamma, d)\) is a bicovariant first-order differential calculus on \(A\). Morphisms in \(\mathcal D\) are pairs \((\phi^0,\phi^1)\) in which \(\phi^0\) is a Hopf algebra map and \(\phi^1\) is a Hopf bimodule morphism such that \(d\circ \phi^0 = \phi^1\circ d\). Then the authors construct and analyse an exact \textit{quantum Lie functor}, which to any co-quasitriangular Hopf algebra \((A, {\mathbf r})\) associates a bicovariant first-order differential calculus understood as an object in \(\mathcal D\). Although this functor gives trivial results for standard deformations of classical groups, it leads to interesting differential calculi in case of \textit{softer} deformations with triangular \(R\)-matrices (e.g.\ Jordanian deformations). Finally, the authors show that a certain class of braided Lie algebras, termed \textit{split braided Lie algebras} defines \textit{generalised Lie algebras} obtained by deforming the adjoint representation. These and their enveloping algebras are constructed for \({\mathcal O}_q(SL(n))\), and the Witten deformation of the Lie algebra \(sl(2)\) is recovered for \(n=2\).
