The author uses his theory of valuations of ternary fields to construct (totally disconnected) topological projective planes. The notion of a valuation on a ternary field generalizes the theory of valuations on fields; but the exact definition requires an additional normalization of the valuation on the elements of the so-called radical of the ternary field. Given a valuation \(v\) on a ternary field \(K\), the author remarks that the obvious topology on \(K\) which is induced by \(v\) turns \(K\) into a topological ternary field. Then he considers the projective plane \(\pi\) defined over \(K\). There are known examples of topological ternary fields whose topology cannot be extended to a topological one the corresponding projective plane such that the projective plane becomes a topological projective plane. Hence, it is interesting to ask whether the valuation topology extends to \(\pi\) such that \(\pi\) is a topological projective plane. It is proven that this is always the case. The proof of this result defines the topology on \(\pi\) very explicitly. The remaining half of the paper deals with the construction of valuations on various ternary fields.
