The author relates different representations of the same multistep methods. In particular, the Störmer-Cowell method in second-sum form is shown to be the Gauss-Jackson method. The numerical behavior of the split and summed form of the Störmer-Cowell method is investigated and is shown to be superior to the original method with respect to rounding errors. It is furthermore shown that the second-sum form is not superior to just summing once.
