This two-volume set is a collection of, mainly, interesting reminiscences of researchers active in the early and also in later phases of fuzzy set-based methods, dispersed with a few substantial contributions to this topic. Therefore, this homage to Lotfi A. Zadeh, the now over 90 years old scientist who founded this area of typically applied research with a seminal 1965 paper and essentially influences it since, offers an interesting historical perspective concerning the many facets of fuzzy set research, and the lots of people engaged in it. For Volume 2 see [Zbl 1271.03016]. The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually.
