In this interesting paper the authors introduce a unified approach to the reduction of Poisson manifolds using description by graded symplectic manifolds. The paper has two parts. In the first part a statement about the reduction of Poisson manifolds \((M,\pi )\) is obtained, where the input data is a submanifold of \(M\) endowed with a suitable distribution. In graded terms the Poisson manifold \(M\) corresponds to a degree 1 symplectic manifold \(\mathcal{M}\), and the input data to certain submanifolds of \(\mathcal{M}\). Considering presymplectic submanifolds of \(\mathcal{M}\), they obtain a reduction statement for Poisson manifolds which essentially amounts to the well-known theorem of \textit{J. E. Marsden} and \textit{T. Ratiu} [Lett. Math. Phys. 11, 161--169 (1986; Zbl 0602.58016)]. At the end of this first part, some examples are presented in which the Poisson manifold \(M\) is a cotangent bundle or the dual of a Drinfeld double. In the second part, the authors consider actions on the degree-1 symplectic manifold \(\mathcal{M}\), which in turn induce actions on the symplectic groupoid \(\Gamma\) of the Poisson manifold \((M,\pi )\). Also, they prove that the object acting on \(\Gamma\) is not just a Lie group but rather a Lie 2-group, and that the action is an action in the category of Lie groupoids. Finally, the examples of the actions considered and their reductions are presented.
