In this paper, the author studies the Gauss maps of surfaces in the 3-dimensional Heisenberg group $H_3$ where a geodesic is a line or a branch of hyperbola. For doing so, Gans model of the hyperbolic plane is used [\textit{D. Gans}, Am. Math. Mon. 73, 291--295 (1966; Zbl 0136.15101)]. Having described the relationship between the Torsion field of the Gauss map and the mean curvature of a surface in $H_3$, it is found that the Gauss map of any minimal surface is harmonic. At last, a characterization theorem is proved for a minimal surface such that its Gauss map is conformal.
