This paper deals with the construction of chiral abstract polytopes by extension. If \({\mathcal K}\) is an abstract polytope of rank \(n\), then an abstract polytope \({\mathcal P}\) of rank \(n+1\) is said to be an extension of \({\mathcal K}\) if every facet of \({\mathcal P}\) is isomorphic to \({\mathcal K}\). A polytope is chiral if it has maximal rotational symmetry but admits no reflections. A polytope is rotary if it is regular or chiral. If a rotary \(n\)-polytope \({\mathcal K}\) has Schläfli symbol \((p_1,\dots,p_{n-1})\), then an extension of \({\mathcal K}\) has Schläfli symbol \((p_1,\dots,p_{n-1},p_n)\). The purpose of this paper is to construct chiral extensions \({\mathcal P}\) of certain chiral polytopes with regular facets such that the last entry of the Schläfli symbol of \({\mathcal P}\) is arbitrarily large. Among the employed tools are the maniplexes of \textit{S. Wilson} [Symmetry 4, No. 2, 265--275 (2012; Zbl 1351.52010)] and the GPR-graphs of \textit{D. Pellicer} and \textit{A. I. Weiss} [Contrib. Discrete Math. 5, No. 2, 76--105 (2010; Zbl 1320.51024)]. A final section treats chiral extensions of maps on the torus.
