Auslander-Reiten sequences were first introduced by \textit{M. Auslander} and \textit{I. Reiten} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 39, 1--51 (1986; Zbl 0576.18008)] as a useful tool to study the local structure of the module category of an Artin algebra. Since then, it has been generalized to the situation of exact categories, triangulated categories and its subcategories. Extriangulated categories was introduced in \textit{H. Nakaoka} and \textit{Y. Palu} [Cah. Topol. Géom. Différ. Catég. 60, No. 2, 117--193 (2019; Zbl 1451.18021)] as a simultaneous generalization of exact categories and triangulated categories. Exact categories and extension-closed subcategories of a triangulated category are extriangulated categories, while there are some other examples of extriangulated categories which are neither exact nor triangulated. \textit{O. Iyama} et al., [``Auslander-Reiten theory in extriangulated categories'', to appear] developed Auslander-Reiten theory for extriangulated categories. This unified Auslander-Reiten theories in exact categories and triangulated categories. \textit{M. C. R. Butler} [Lect. Notes Math. 882, 352--368 (1981; Zbl 0535.18010)] has shown that if \(\Lambda\) is an Artin algebra of finite representation type, then the almost split sequences generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of \(\Lambda\). \textit{M. Auslander} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 91, 336--340 (1984; Zbl 0542.16028)] proved the converse of Butler's result, i.e. \(\Lambda\) is of finite representation type if the almost split sequences generate the relations for the Grothendieck group of \(\Lambda\). Later, \textit{J. Xiao} and \textit{B. Zhu} [J. Algebra 257, No. 1, 37--50 (2002; Zbl 1021.18004)] proved the relations of the Grothendieck group of a triangulated category of finite type were generated by all Auslander-Reiten triangles. In the paper under review, the authors consider the relations of the Grothendieck group and show that for a locally finite extriangulated category, the relations are all generated by Auslander-Reiten \(\mathbb{E}\)-triangles and they also give a partial converse result when we restrict to the triangulated categories with a cluster tilting subcategory. Finally, they show that for an extriangulated category \(\mathcal C\) with a generator \(\mathcal G\), there is a one-to-one correspondence between subgroups of \(K_0(\mathcal C)\) containing the image of \(\mathcal G\) and dense \(\mathcal G\)-(co)resolving subcategories of \(\mathcal C\). These results generalize the relevant results of exact categories or triangulated categories.
