Let \(f: X \longrightarrow Y\) be a dominant projective morphism of normal varieties which is a Mori fiber space. The paper under review studies the problem of determining which Fano varieties can appear as fibers of \(f\) (the authors actually treat the smooth case). Note that the cases when \(\dim X \le 3\) have already been treated in [\textit{S. Mori}, Ann. Math. (2) 116, 133--176 (1982; Zbl 0557.14021)] and [\textit{G. Codogni} et al., Int. Math. Res. Not. 2016, No. 7, 2026--2067 (2016; Zbl 1404.14052)]. The authors first find examples of such \textit{fibre-like} Fano among toric manifolds \(F = F(\Delta)\). The sufficient condition here is that the automorphisms of the polytope \(\Delta\) act transitively on its vertices (see Lemma 2.2 in the text). The authors also provide a precise description of such \(F\) (via \(t\)-del Pezzo and Klyachko manifolds) in some special cases (see Theorem 1.7). Further, assuming that \(\dim X\ge 4\), the Picard number \(\rho \ge 2\) and the Fano index \(i_X \ge (n + 1)/2\), the authors classify all such fibre-like \(X\) in Theorem 1.8. Finally, Fano manifolds of even dimension \(\ge 4\) and \(\rho \ge n + 4\) are studied, and it is proved (Theorem 1.9) that any such Fano birational to \(\mathbb{P}^n\) blown up at \(n + 3\) general points is fibre-like. In all cases, the sufficient condition \(\text{NS}(X)_{\mathbb{Q}}^{\text{Aut}(X)} =\mathbb{Q}K_X\) is employed (see Theorem 3.1 in [loc. cit.]), and the latter is checked explicitly by standard methods of toric and Fano varieties.
