The study of various reproducing function systems has been influenced (among others) by the development of image processing. One of the key problems is how to deal with various important features of an image; edges being among the most difficult elements of any image. Shearlets, as well as the closely related bendlet transforms present some of the best known systems that deal with such problems. The author of the paper under review introduces a new method, the Taylorlet transform, which could be placed within the shearlet family of transforms in a wider sense. Following ideas akin to the ones used in wavelet transforms, the author develops a more general form of the vanishing moment condition. The main result provides a detailed analysis of the decay properties of the Taylorlet transform. The paper presents a thorough analysis of the Taylorlet transform, starting with theoretical results, continuing to the construction of such systems, and concluding with numerical examples that illustrate the efficiency of the new method.
