In the present paper, the authors prove the conjecture given by \textit{X. Chen} et al. [``Classification of gapped symmetric phases in one-dimensional spin systems'', Phys. Rev. B. 83, No. 3, Article ID 035107, 19 p. (2011; \url{doi:10.1103/PhysRevB.83.035107})] and establish Lieb-Mattis-Schultz type no-go theorems for quantum spin chains without continuous symmetry. The proofs are based on the deep correspondence between the matrix product state formulation and the Cuntz algebra associated with the translation in the half-infinite chain. The authors summary standard setup of quantum spin chains on the infinite chain. Let \(S\) be a half-odd-integer. Let \(\Phi\) be a map from the set of all finite subsets in \(\mathbb{Z}\) into the set of local observables. The authors prove that a model with a translation and time-reversal invariant finite range interaction \(\Phi\) does not have a unique gapped ground state. Also, the authors prove that a model with a translation and \(\mathbb{Z}^{2}\times \mathbb{Z}^{2}\) invariant finite range interaction \(\Phi\) does not have a unique gapped ground state.
