The authors define what they call higher level versions of the affine Hecke algebra and affine Schur algebra, by algebraic and diagrammatic presentations. They also similarly define cyclotomic quotients of the former. They show that after completion, these higher level affine algebras are isomorphic to a completion of \textit{B. Webster}'s tensor product algebra (of type \(A\)) [Knot invariants and higher representation theory. Providence, RI: American Mathematical Society (AMS) (2017; Zbl 1446.57001)] and Stroppel-Webster's quiver Schur algebra [\textit{C. Stroppel} and \textit{B. Webster}, ``Quiver Schur algebras and q-Fock space'', Preprint, \url{arXiv:1110.1115}], respectively, while the cyclotomic quotients of higher level affine Hecke algebras are isomorphic to cyclotomic quotients of Webster's tensor product algebra. \textit{B. Webster} has also defined similar, often Morita equivalent, algebras in [Algebr.\ Comb.~3, No.~1, 1--38 (2020; Zbl 1504.20012)], wherein many similar isomorphisms are also proved. The motivation to define this higher level affine Schur algebra is in search for an algebra that surjects onto the Dipper-James-Mathas cyclotomic q-Schur algebra [\textit{R. Dipper} et al., Math.\ Z.\ 229, No.~3, 385--416 (1998; Zbl 0934.20014)] and has a nice faithful polynomial representation. It is ultimately defined as the endomorphism algebra of a certain module for the higher-level affine Hecke algebra, in much the same was as the usual cyclotomic or affine q-Schur algebras may be defined as endomorphism algebras of certain modules over the cyclotomic or affine Hecke algebras, respectively. This thus also motivates the need to define the higher level affine Hecke algebra, as a stepping stone to the desired algebra.
