For about a century, operator theory was progressing due to a few well studied functional models. The first in line, being the multiplication by the real variable on Lebesgue space of a measure supported on the real line, the second, and not less notorious, is multiplication by the complex variable on Hardy space of the unit disk. Analogues of the Hardy space model were developed in several complex variables, always the import of function theory phenomena being the principal source of inspiration. The investigation of non-commutative calculus (an extreme being a free calculus) of tuples of linear operators has reversed the above trend; this time, Hilbert space methods preceding a deep understanding of function theory. For quite a while, the advances in non-commutative function theory and in operator theory marched hand in hand. One of the main promoters of this dynamic direction of research is Gelu Popescu. Some of his contributions are by now classical, including [\textit{G. Popescu}, Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 316, No. 2, 523--536 (1989; Zbl 0691.47008); J. Oper. Theory 22, No. 1, 51--71 (1989; Zbl 0703.47009); J. Funct. Anal. 189, No. 1, 132--154 (2002; Zbl 1013.46061); Indiana Univ. Math. J. 55, No. 2, 389--442 (2006; Zbl 1104.47013); J. Funct. Anal. 265, No. 10, 2500--2552 (2013; Zbl 1298.47019); Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 368, No. 6, 4357--4416 (2016; Zbl 1467.47004)]. The article under review complements Popescu's results with a lucid analysis of non-commuting multipliers on Fock space. Analogues of the main phenomena of the function theory of several commuting variables are established.
