Let \(G\) denote a simply connected simple Chevalley group defined over \(\mathbb{Q}\), and let \(\Gamma\) stand for any congruence subgroup of \(G(\mathbb{Q})\). The purpose of the paper under the review is to sharpen the results of \textit{E. Lindenstrauss} and \textit{A. Venkatesh} [Geom. Funct. Anal. 17, No. 1, 220--251 (2007; Zbl 1137.22011)] on the Weyl law for the cuspidal spectrum for congruence subgroups. The authors bound the error term in the cuspidal Weyl law by \(O(T^{d - \delta})\), for some \(\delta > 0\). More precisely, they show that for the cuspidal spectrum we have an equality \[N_{X, \mathrm{cusp}}(T) = \frac{\mathrm{vol}(X)}{(4 \pi)^{\frac{d}{2}}\Gamma(\frac{d}{2}+1)} T^d + O_{\Gamma}(T^{d- \delta}),\] for \(T \geq 1\), and \(X = \Gamma \setminus G(\mathbb{R}) / K\), \(K\) being a maximal compact subgroup.
