This paper is devoted to the Kadomtsev-Petviashvili (KP) hierarchies of types B (BKP) and C (CKP). The author discusses the main objects and notions related to them: the \(L\) operator, the wave operator, the auxiliary linear problems for the wave function, the bilinear identity for the wave function, and the tau function. The tau function satisfies certain equations (the Hirota equations) that are bilinear in the BKP case and have a more complicated structure in the CKP case. The connection between tau functions of the KP, BKP, and CKP hierarchies is clarified. As examples of solutions, he gives explicit formulas for soliton solutions. The BKP and CKP N-solitons are specializations of \(2N\)-soliton solutions of the KP hierarchy. The author also discusses the dispersionless limit of the BKP and CKP hierarchies, which appears to be the same for both of them. This paper is organized as follows: Section 1 is an introduction to the subject. Section 2 deals with KP hierarchy. In Section 3, the author presents the main formulas pertaining to the BKP hierarchy in some detail. In Section 4, he also presents the main formulas related to the CKP hierarchy in some detail. Section 5 is devoted to the dispersionless limits of the BKP and CKP hierarchies.
