We say that a diffeomorphism \(f\) is super-exponentially divergent if for every \(b>1\) the lower limit of the sequence \(b^{-n}\# \mathrm{Per}_n (f)\) is \(+\infty\), where Per\(_n (f)\) is the set of all periodic points of \(f\) with period \(n\). Let Diff\(^1 (M)\) denote the space of \(C^1\)-diffeomorphisms of a manifold \(M\) endowed with the \(C^1\)-topology. In the main result of the paper the authors show that for any \(n\)-dimensional smooth closed manifold \(M\) where \(n \geq 3\), there exists a non-empty open set \(\mathcal O\subset \mathrm{Diff}^1 (M)\) and a dense subset \(\mathcal D\) of \(\mathcal O\) such that every diffeomorphism in \(\mathcal D\) is super-exponentially divergent. They also show that given \(1 \leq s \leq +\infty\) and a super-exponential sequence \({a_n}\), there exists a \(C^s\)-residual subset \(\mathcal R\) of \(\mathrm{Diff}^s(M)\) such that for every \(f\in \mathcal R\) we have \[ \liminf_{n\rightarrow +\infty} \frac{\#\mathrm{Per}_n(f)}{a_n}=0 . \]
