Let \(A\) be an associative finite-dimensional basic algebra over a~fixed algebraically closed field, and denote by mod\(\,A\) the category of finitely generated right \(A\)-modules. Following [\textit{T. Adachi} et al., Compos. Math. 150, No. 3, 415--452 (2014; Zbl 1330.16004)], a~module \(M\) in mod\(\,A\) is called \(\tau\)-rigid if Hom\(_A(M,\tau M)= 0\), and an algebra \(A\) is called \(\tau\)-tilting finite if there are finite number of non-isomorphic indecomposable \(\tau\)-rigid modules in mod\(\,A\), where \(\tau\) (= \(\tau_A\)) is the Auslander-Reiten translation \(D\,\)Tr. The first main result of the paper under review is the skillful collection of previously proven facts (in various papers) into the following theorem. Theorem. Let \(A\) be a simply connected algebra. Then, \(A\) is \(\tau\)-tilting finite if and only if it is representation-finite. Note that by the above theorem and [\textit{A. Rogat} and \textit{T. Tesche}, ``The Gabriel quivers of the sincere simply connected algebras'', SFB-preprint, Erganzungsreihe 93-005 (1993)] we receive a complete list of \(\tau\)-tilting finite sincere simply connected algebras (Remark 3.9). The following theorem is the second main result of the paper. Theorem. Let \(\{e_1, e_2, \ldots, e_n\}\) be a complete set of pairwise orthogonal primitive idempotents of \(A\). If \(A\) is non-sincere, then \(A\) is \(\tau\)-tilting finite if and only if \(A/Ae_iA\) is \(\tau\)-tilting finite for any \(1\leq i\leq n\). The author also indicates the \(\tau\)-tilting finiteness of some subclasses of sincere simply connected algebras, namely \(\tau\)-tilting finiteness of the staircase algebras introduced by \textit{M. Boos} [J. Pure Appl. Algebra 221, No. 8, 2032--2052 (2017; Zbl 1385.16008)] and the shifted-staircase algebras introduced in the article.
