Let \(S\) be a monoid. An \(S\)-act is a set \(M\) together with an action of \(S\) on \(M\). We consider the category of all \(S\)-acts which can be understood as a non-additive counterpart of the category of modules over a ring. It is therefore naturally to study in this non-additive setting properties which are known to be useful for modules. The authos study and characterize projective and connected acts. Note that in the paper an object \(C\) with the property that the covariant hom functor \(\mathrm{Hom}(C,-)\) preserves coproducts is called connected and not small as in the case of modules. The already mentioned goal of the paper is achieved by proposing the notion of UD-category, which can be regarded as an axiomatic description of the category of acts.
