The paper deals with the Euler-Poisson equation which describes the unipolar hydrodynamic behaviour of a semiconductor device in the case of supersonic doping profile and with boundary data separately in the subsonic and supersonic regions. In the \S1 the modelling equation is presented together with a detailed and useful background of the previous researches; a good physical background is also provided. The main results and the proof strategies are also presented in the same section. In the next two sections the structural stability for the steady transonic solution, both in the smooth and shock cases are studied. In the last section the linearized problem is presented and the linear dynamic instability is analyzed.
