In this paper, the authors revisit the microscale model proposed recently by \textit{A. Muntean} and \textit{C. Nikolopoulos} [SIAM J. Appl. Math. 80, No. 1, 448--475 (2020; Zbl 1435.35038)] to describe the time and space evolution of a family of \(N\)-types of populations of colloids undergoing coagulation and fragmentation in a locally periodic porous medium. The focus is here on a single reaction-diffusion equation (so, \(N=1\), say, for the case of the population of monomers). One obtains once more the known upscaled model, now by means of a mathematically rigorous homogenisation procedure based on the so-called two-scale-transformation method; the details of this averaging method can be found in the PhD thesis by the first author of this work.
