    Assume \(\Lambda\) finite dimensional algebra, and let \(\Bbbk\) be the quotient algebra \(\Lambda/rad(\Lambda)\). There is a canonical action of \(H^*(\Lambda)\) the Hochschild cohomology of \(\Lambda\) on the ordinary cohomology Ext\(^*_\Lambda(M,N)\) of \(\Lambda\) for any \(\Lambda\)-modules \(M\) and \(N\). The article under review investigates under which conditions is the graded algebra Ext\(^*_\Lambda(\Bbbk,\Bbbk)\) is module finite over \(H^0(\Lambda)\). This condition is abbreviated as \textbf{(fg)} in the paper. In [\textit{K. Erdmann} et al., \(K\)-Theory 33, No. 1, 67--87 (2004; Zbl 1116.16007)] it was shown that any finite dimensional algebra \(\Lambda\) that satisfies \textbf{(fg)} is necessarily Gorenstein. The paper under review shows the converse for monomial algebras: a finite dimensional monomial algebra \(\Lambda\) satisfies \textbf{(fg)} if and only if it is Gorenstein. A special case of the Theorem for Nakayama algebras, which are monomial algebras over certain quivers, is proven in [\textit{H. Komatsu} (ed.), Proceedings of the 43rd symposium on ring theory and representation theory, Naruto University of Education, Naruto, Japan, September 10--12, 2010. Soja: Symposium on Ring Theory and Representation Theory Organizing Committee (2011; Zbl 1235.16001)] using different techniques. The paper under review heavily uses Anick resolutions, an \(A_\infty\)-version of the \textbf{(fg)} condition based on the techniques developed in [\textit{P. Tamaroff}, Homology Homotopy Appl. 23, No. 1, 341--366 (2020; Zbl 1462.16008)], and a combinatorial description of Gorenstein-ness for monomial algebras based on the techniques developed in [\textit{X.-W. Chen} et al., Proc. R. Soc. Edinb., Sect. A, Math. 148, No. 6, 1115--1134 (2018; Zbl 1403.16008)].
