Components of Brill-Noether loci for curves with fixed gonality (Q2113441)

In this article, the components of the Brill-Noether variety \(W^r_d(C)\) of a general \(k\)-gonal curve \(C\), parametrizing degree \(d\) line bundles of rank at least \(r\), are conjecturally described. This work is in parallel with [\textit{H. Larson}, Invent. Math. 224, No. 3, 767--790 (2021; Zbl 1477.14014)], where independent proofs of the proposed conjectures in this article, are presented. Based on the theory of special divisors on the chain of loops and the splitting type of the vector bundles on the projective line, the authors provide a stratification of the Brill-Noether variety into maximal tori with respect to containment where these maximal tori are characterized by the scrollar tableaux, or equivalently by maximal splitting types.
