Under consideration are the spectral properties of the Krein-Feller differential operators for arbitrary finite Borel measures \(\nu\) defined on a finite intervals \((a, b)\). Connections between the spectral dimension, i.e., the power of \(\lambda\) characterizing the behaviour of the corresponding counting function \(N(\lambda)\), the \(L_q\)-spectrum, the partition entropy and the optimized coarse multifractal dimension are established. It is shown that the asymptotic behavior of the eigenvalues does not depend on the chosen boundary condition nor on the interval containing \(supp\,\nu\). Sharp estimates from below and above for the counting function are established. Under mild regularity conditions on the measure the existence of the spectral dimension is proven. Natural bounds reveal intrinsic connections to the Minkowski dimension of the support of the associated Borel measure. Examples such measures, in particular, of pure point type are displayed. Examples in which the spectral dimension does not exist are also presented.
